Here are some answers to frequently asked questions.

All doctor consultations at Sage Medical are strictly by appointment only.

To make an appointment, simply call 03 8606 3206 or book online.

STANDARD CONSULTATIONS

Standard consultation times are 15 minutes. This is usually long enough to discuss one or two medical issues. If you have several issues that you wish to discuss, please book a longer consultation.

LONGER CONSULTATIONS

If you wish to discuss several issues, or would like to make a family appointment, just have a quick chat to the reception staff. They will be happy to make a longer appointment for you. Appointments for full health checks, mental health plans and some medical procedures usually require a longer consultation. If you are unsure, please ask at reception.

NEW PATIENTS

New adult patients generally require a 30 minute appointment, baby and child clients would usually need a 15-minute appointment. If you haven’t visited before, it’s a great idea to arrive 10 minutes early so you have time to fill out your paperwork.

URGENT APPOINTMENTS

Most of our available appointments are booked in advance. If you need an appointment on the day, please call us. Our Nurses will triage your needs and determine the most appropriate next steps to take.

OUT OF HOURS MEDICAL CARE

If you need care outside our normal opening hours:

  • In a medical emergency, please call 000 or attend your local Emergency Department
  • Otherwise call our after-hours number 13 SICK (13 74 25)

We would be grateful if you could cancel any appointments you cannot make ahead of time. This would allow other patients to make use of this appointment time. Cancellations less than 4 hours from the appointment time may incur a late cancellation fee. Our cancellation fee for repeat offenders, or those who fail to attend or cancel a long appointment less than 4 hours before the appointment is $50.

Anyone with known allergy/asthma symptoms can book a face-to-face appointment.

If you have Respiratory symptoms (sore throat, runny nose or cough) or Fever (temperature greater than 37.5C) please notify us when you are booking your appointment.

  • If you have had a positive COVID test within the last 7 days and you require a GP consultation, please book a Telehealth appointment. We will not be able to see you in the clinic until 7 days after your positive test result.
  • ‘In-person’ consultations are available for adults and children with respiratory symptoms or fever – but patients must have a negative covid test on the day of their appointment.

We provide pathology results electronically at no charge should your test results be normal, and a follow-up consultation not required.

If you’re having tests to investigate a symptom or problem, you’ll often need another appointment to discuss the results. Even if the results are normal, your GP may need to assess if further examination or investigations are required.

If a test indicates abnormal results, your GP will want to discuss these during an appointment. This way, they can ensure a consistently high level of care is maintained

We endeavor to respond to email messages on the same business day or, failing that, the next business day. We cannot take appointment bookings or answer medical queries by email. For either of these matters, please call the clinic or book the relevant appointment online.

So that our GP’s can provide the best possible care, it is best to discuss your concerns with your doctor during a consultation. Sage Medical GPs are unable to receive phone calls whilst they are consulting with patients. If you need medical assistance, you can request to speak to one of our nurses. Please understand that we try to keep consultation interruptions to a minimum.

We can assist you with requesting your medical records from your previous GP. You can complete the Request for Medical History Transfer form (available from our reception staff either in clinic or via email). We can then forward this request to your previous GP on your behalf. Please be aware that your old clinic may charge a fee for this service.

Sage Medical is always happy for our patients to leave feedback. If you have feedback about any aspect of your care, please discuss the matter with your GP/doctor or with our practice manager (either call 03 8606 3206 or email reception@sagemedical.au. If you have concerns, we hope that we will be able to address them.
