The new RSV vaccine is now available at Sage Medical and is free for all women between 28-36 weeks pregnant. The vaccine can safely be given at the same time as your whooping cough vaccine.
Our experienced nurses, Veronica and Di, have appointments available 5 days per week. Please call our clinic on 03 8606 3206 or book online with one of our nurses for your immunisation appointment.
Here’s a bit of information about RSV and why the vaccine is so important:
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a highly contagious virus that infects the respiratory tract, including the throat, nose, and lungs. It’s a common virus that usually causes mild symptoms, but it can be severe in some people.
RSV rates are continuing to skyrocket across Australia, with over 166,000 cases recorded in 2024 compared to 128,117 in the entirety of 2023, and 95,959 in 2022.
Of the cases recorded in 2024, 49.5% were in children under four years old, and a further 8.5% were in children aged between five and nine.
Maternal immunisation is so important because it reduces the risk of severe RSV disease in infants less than six months of age by around 70%.
