IUD / Implanon Insertion

Dr Dr Kirsten Henderson is an accredited provider for all IUD and Implanon insertions. If you are interested in having a consultation about these contraception options, please book a 15 mins appointment for a consultation about the Implanon insertion or a 30mins appointment to discuss an IUD insertion. During these consultations, the procedure will be explained including pain management options, any relevant examination and STI testing will be carried out, and your prescription for the IUD or Implanon will be provided.

Long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) is a good option for people who might not want to have to remember their contraception every day or every time they have sex.

LARC will stop you from getting pregnant for a number of years. There are two types of LARC that you can use:

  • a contraceptive implant (Implanon) that is placed under the skin of your arm – lasts for up to 3 years.
  • an IUD (intrauterine device). This is a small device that is placed inside your uterus – lasts for up to 5 to 10 years. There are 3 x IUD options currently available in Australia- Mirena, Kyleena and Copper.

An implant or IUD can be removed when you don’t want to use it anymore.
